ABOUT TOM GEARD

Tom is currently a Director at AtkinsRealis, Head of Residential L & SE - Project Management. He has over 36 years’ experience, training and education within the construction industry covering both the private and public sectors. Tom holds BSc Construction Management (CIOB) and is a member of APM. He has worked on and delivered projects with a combined development value of more than £2 billion during his career to date, with the past 20 years dedicated to delivering residential and mixed use projects (residential, health, education, retail, office, and hotel). His client facing roles have required a diverse set of project management and technical capabilities, ranging from detailed due diligence / project monitoring for major development funders, procurement management of consultant and contractor frameworks for major residential development investment programmes, and delivering leadership (Project Director) throughout all RIBA Stages of the project lifecycle. Tom is an expert in the field of project management and highly technical in construction standards and regulations and has used this capability to work closely with his client’s to develop better ways of working, providing training, guidance and mentoring to the project teams he has worked with and led.In addition to the project director and management roles Tom has undertaken, his role as Director for the firms he has been employed, required that he was actively involved with business development, having a deep understanding of the market he was responsible for, and to grow relationships with the existing and potential clients. The pinnacle of his business development success was the proposal submission and interview for the Battersea Power Station project management appointment, where he was required to travel to the funder’s office in Malaysia and present to a panel of over 35 stakeholders (quite a challenge considering he had to present whilst dealing with jet lag).
