Gambling with Lives was established in 2018 by the families and friends of people who had taken their own lives as a direct result of gambling. Research estimates there are between 117 and 496 gambling-related suicides every year in England.Our mission is to support those bereaved by gambling-related suicide and to improve mental health and save lives through raising awareness of the risks to health posed by gambling.In support of our mission, we:• Support families who have been bereaved by gambling-related suicides • Raise awareness of the dangerous effects of gambling on mental health & the high suicide risk• Campaign to reform the UK’s outdated gambling lawsAs Public Affairs and Communications Manager, I am responsible for:• Leading on high-impact responses to government policy consultations and Select Committee inquiries following the Gambling White Paper• Building and maintaining influential relationships with political stakeholders, journalists, and key voices across the gambling reform and mental health sectors• Representing the charity at parliamentary events, including All-Party Parliamentary Groups and party political conferences• Producing strategic communications materials — including political briefings, speeches, reports, and position papers — to support legislative advocacy and policy reform• Acting as a media spokesperson across national platforms, including live interviews on BBC News and leading podcasts• Developing and executing the charity’s communications strategy, including launching a new website, managing stakeholder newsletters, and aligning digital content with public affairs goals• Managing social media channels, creating campaign-aligned content that doubled engagement and reach across platforms within two years• Working closely with the Head of External Affairs to secure high-profile media coverage, placing impactful stories, quotes, and interviewees across print, broadcast, and digital outlets
