ABOUT TOM APPLEBY
For many years I was a commercial lawyer, and have since become an academic. I have conducted ground breaking research and been involved in some very significant legal actions, particularly in the field of the marine environment and property law, but also intellectual property. I have written numerous high quality research papers many of which have been picked up by the national media, and have undoubtedly had significant impact in the real world. I have been on the board of a number of organisations giving strategic legal input into their overall direction as well as overseeing some complex legal issues in everything from pensions to tax, as well as property and environment related work. At UWE I run the RICS accredited real estate masters programmes and research marine, environment and proprietary rights. At the Blue Marine Foundation I am a trustee and head of legal affairs and help BLUE\'s extraordinarily team navigate their way through the complexities of marine environmental law.
