Programmed using C#/.NET Framework/Java/PowerShell/Python for the VistA Imaging Exchange used by Department of Veterans Affairs that implements image sharing between medical facilities. Troubleshot issues and made improvements to the Imaging Exchange Service and Image Viewer. Updated documents for software releases including technical manuals, and user and installation guides. Developed and trained custom machine learning models on VA patient data and medical images using AWS SageMaker, including image and specialty classification, landmark detection models, and a meta-classifier, with applications toward an FDA 510(k)-approved medical device. Designed and deployed a custom AI-powered chatbot for document ingestion and retrieval by developing and fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) with Python, leveraging Ollama and Hugging Face’s transformers for data preprocessing, model training, fine-tuning, and evaluation. Implemented Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and prompt engineering strategies. Created PostgreSQL database to store records of VA patient data and link to images in AWS S3. Co-Host of the AI Innovation Space Podcast focused on applications of artificial intelligence (AI). Prepared whitepapers, blog articles, and presentations on AI in healthcare and research. Built and maintained Jenkins pipelines to automate build, deployment, and smoke testing processes, with integrated rollback on failure and user notifications to ensure system stability and awareness.
