About Todd Stueckle

I offer 20+ years of project leadership and management expertise in environmental, occupational, in vitro, and toxicological sciences.Research Activities:Our lab is actively investigating how plastic nanocomposites break down generating airborne micro and nanoplastics, and their inherent pulmonary and systemic toxicity. We also started a project evaluating lithium ion battery components across their life cycle and the pulmonary toxicity that manufacturing workers and firefighters potentially experience if exposed. Our lab continues to screen and evaluate organomodified nanoclays and their composites for pulmonary toxicity using tiered risk assessment strategies. We have a long history of investigations of long-term risks (fibrosis and cancer) that nanomaterials pose to human health.Collaborating with University of Arizona on the Fire Fighter Cancer Cohort study to investigate potential health risks to firefighters that use and fluorine-free foams while fighting fires. This work has expanded to investigate PFAS and foam component fate and toxicity following incineration in collaboration with University of Massachusetts-Lowell.Publications:Author of 48 published works, 2 graduate theses and 150+ oral and/or poster abstracts. 2 publications under review with 3 more in preparation.Awards:NIOSH Alice Hamilton Award 2019, Methods and Laboratory ScienceBest Publication Award 2019, Nanotoxicology SS, Society of ToxicologyDistinguished Service as President, AESOT Regional Chapter, Society of ToxicologyBest Overall Presentation, AESOT Annual MeetingSociety of Toxicology, Inhalation/Respiratory SS Post-Doctoral AwardSociety of Toxicology, Mechanisms SS Post-Doctoral Travel AwardWVU Foundation Distinguished Doctoral Candidate FellowshipWVU HERF FellowshipNumerous SETAC Regional and National Travel AwardsMentoring:Advised and mentored 6 Ph.D. candidates and 11 undergraduate researchers in nanotoxicology, physiological and ecotoxicology studies.Professional Societies:Society of ToxicologyAESOT Regional Chapter, SOT (Past-President)Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC; past member)CPRC Regional SETAC Chapter (past member)The Crustacean Society (past member)Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (past member)Society of Marine Mammalogy (past member)Specialties: Nanomaterial ToxicologyPFAS ToxicologyEndocrine DisruptionToxicogenomic ProfilingLung CancerPesticide ecotoxicologyChemical mixturesMultiple StressorsCrustacean Physiology and EcologyMarine EcologyMarine Mammal Behavior and Acoustics
