As Chief of Police for the City of Aurora, I stepped into the role during a challenging time; our department is operating under a consent decree and was facing national scrutiny over crime and gang violence, particularly related to the TDA gang. From day one, my focus has been clear: stabilize the organization, improve public safety, and rebuild trust with our community.I’ve led a full-scale transformation of the Aurora Police Department into a modern, accountable, and community-focused agency. Using data-driven strategies, intelligence-led policing, and real-time technology, we targeted crime while ensuring our practices remained constitutional and procedurally just. These efforts resulted in a measurable reduction in crime, especially gang-related activity, and helped shift the narrative around public safety in our city.Internally, I prioritized officer wellness, professional development, and leadership accountability. I guided cultural change rooted in transparency, and ethical service. Through enhanced recruitment, stronger community engagement, and strategic resource allocation, we’ve built a department that reflects the values of the community we serve and meets the expectations of 21st-century policing.My approach is grounded in performance, integrity, and sustainability, and I’m proud of how far we’ve come.
