In my new role, I still write breaking news, but I also focus on more in-depth stories. A major focus of my job now is to provide depth and context to our reporting. That sometimes entails working with a reporter to gather or contextualize information, doing secondary interviews to advance a story, providing background research, and occasionally creating graphics and data presentations for broadcast or online. I still handle breaking news and editing as needed, but I\'m also more involved with our investigative team and in providing quality content centered on some of the station\'s broadcast partners, most notably the Kansas City Chiefs and Sporting Kansas City.

ABOUT TOD PALMER
I spent 17 years writing for newspapers and loved (almost) every single minute of it. I love telling stories - asking tough questions, digging for answers, crafting a compelling narrative. Finding ways to connect with people, to get individuals to open up, earning trust to tell someone\'s tale, it was a privilege. It wasn\'t always easy, but there was almost always a way utilizing my intellect, natural curiosity, wit, charm, experience and disarming humor. I\'ve won plenty of awards for my work (from the Football Writers Association of America, Kansas Press Association, Missouri Press Association, etc.). I often was interviewed on radio and TV as an expert on my beat or invited to speak at community groups. I\'m as comfortable giving a presentation as I am writing the copy for it. I\'ve done freelance work for the Los Angeles Times, Athlon Sports Magazines, Canadian Press and numerous other outlets. I\'ve shot and edited videos, recorded and starred in podcasts, and tried to drive an audience via Facebook live. I\'m a quick learner, eager, and a hard worker. Journalism requires a fearlessness and a passion that not everyone can summon or muster. But I have it. I work well with others, shouldering blame when warranted and seldom needing a pat on the back; I work well on deadline, unfazed by the pressure; and I do so while having fun and making people laugh.
