ABOUT TOBIAS SCHWINN
Tobias Schwinn is a tenured lecturer (Akademischer Rat) at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD) at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. In teaching and research, he is focusing on the integration of robotic fabrication and computational design processes and the evaluation through architectural prototypes. Prior to joining the ICD in January 2011, Tobias worked as a Senior Designer for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in New York and London applying computational design techniques to parametric form-finding, rationalization, complex geometry, automation and environmental design. Tobias studied architecture at the Bauhaus-University in Weimar, Germany, where he received his diploma-engineering degree in 2005, and at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia as an exchange student in 2003 as part of the US-EU Joint Consortium for Higher Education. Since 2006, Tobias has been an invited studio critic at various institutions such as Columbia GSAPP, Harvard GSD, Pratt Institute, AA in London, and the Staedelschule Frankfurt and has internationally taught workshops on scripting, algorithmic design and robotic fabrication among others at Monash University in Melbourne, the University of Porto (FAUP), the Robotics in Architecture Conference in 2012, the Middle Eastern Technical University in Ankara (METU), the University of East London (UEL), or the master course at the Dessau Institute of Architecture (DIA).
