Making type and typography accessible and available to everyone.As the Design Manager for Google Fonts I’m responsible for all of Google’s font development projects (including Google Sans, Roboto, Noto, etc.), Google’s icons (Material Symbols, used by all Google products) and Google’s open source font catalog at fonts.google.comGoogle Fonts and our icons are used by all of Google’s products, Material Design, and over half of the websites on the web,The recent redesign of our website was recognized with a Webby Award for Best User Interface 2024, Google Sans Flex, the newest version of Google’s brand typeface, received a Red Dot Design Award for Typeface Design 2024.I’m leading a team of designers and UX program managers, working with a network of foundries and vendors as well as collaborating with teams throughout the company.

Design leader and innovator with over 20 years of experience building digital products, apps and websites in the US, Germany and the UK.Product innovationThroughout my career I have continuously explored and championed new conceptual spaces. In 2010 I co-founded Google Fonts (now used by more than half of all websites), I introduced Design Tokens to one of the world’s largest design systems, used by Google’s own products. My work on Google Play Instant Apps (originally Android Instant Apps) broke new ground with how users interact with Android apps (and they have been deployed on over a billion active Android devices). The success of the World Wonders Project, for which I led the design and development in 2012, led to the founding of Google Arts & Culture.Design Systems thinkingMy design thinking has always been centered around systems and how to scale them. Material Design Tokens have become a big part of how the Material Design System can be adopted for example and I’ve worked on many other aspects of Google’s design system.TypographyI co-founded Google Fonts in 2010, responsible for UX and design of the initial launch. As Design Manager for Fonts since 2020 I managed development of Google\'s brand and platform fonts, Material Symbols, the open-source font catalog and their use across Google. Our Google Fonts website won a Webby for Best User Interface 2024, Google Fonts Knowledge was nominated for a Webby 2023, and the Google Sans Flex typeface won a Red Dot Design Award in 2024.LeadershipI’ve led and managed interdisciplinary and global UX teams of writers, researchers, UX program managers and interaction designers and visual designers of both full-time employees, contractors and vendor agencies for more than a decade.
