About Tanya Maslak
My career has focused on working at the intersection of environmental and social/health sciences to promote sustainable solutions to address the human dimensions of complex, transboundary environmental issues such as climate change and sustainable development. I offer expertise in community engagement, capacity building, and translation of science for policy-making, decision-support, and community outreach. I am currently the Engagement Lead for the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), whose mission is to advance understanding of the complex interactions between ecosystems and the environment by providing high-quality, long-term ecological data and infrastructure to a scientifically diverse set of users.
Experience
Neon Engagement Lead
Mar 2024 — Present
The U.S. National Science Foundation\'s National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) is a continental-scale observation facility designed to collect long-term open access ecological data to better understand how U.S. ecosystems are changing. NEON collects observational data and samples, monitors automated instrumented systems that collect terrestrial and aquatic data, and operates an airborne observation platform that captures remote sensing data of regional landscapes and vegetation across 20 eco-climatic domains across the U.S. NEON\'s data is free and open through the data portal, samples are available via the biorepository, and As Engagement Lead, I oversee NEON\'s engagement, education, and outreach efforts, working with a talented team to help increase awareness and usability of NEON resources for the science community.
