ABOUT TIPHANIE GALVEZ

I have been a civilian member of the law enforcement community for over two decades. After fifteen years in Emergency Communications as a 911 Operator and Dispatcher and promoting to a Communications Supervisor, I transitioned to a role in HR Management. In addition to learning the ins and outs of law enforcement personnel administration, I accepted a leadership role on a project known then as Peer Support. Taking on the task at a time when officer wellness was not a trending topic, I began an uphill battle of integrating mental health practices into a culture not yet open to the discussion. Through partnerships with administrators, informal leaders and unions, the culture slowly began to shift with time. Through expansion of mental health awareness and education, policy development, identification of culturally competent resources and partnerships with local public safety agencies, the Cincinnati Police Peer Support Team has evolved into one of the most comprehensive and advanced first responder wellness programs in the region. The success and support of this program has resulted in a new chapter in my career, one that allows me to devote full-time efforts to officer wellness. As Wellness Coordinator, I am now able to pursue what has become a personal passion: ensuring first responders have the support they need to stay healthy and whole from hire through retire.
