ABOUT TINA CHANCEY
I\'m director of HESPERUS, known for its live early music soundtracks for classic silent films. I play medieval and traditional fiddles and viola da gamba on roots music from Sephardic and Irish to Machaut and Marais. My particular specialty is the pardessus de viole; I presented pardessus debut concerts at Carnegie Recital Hall and Kennedy Center; have released five pardessus recordings, and directed an International Pardessus Conference at the Boston Early Music Festival in 2017. Recent artist residencies have taken me to Germany, Switzerland, Ohio, New Zealand, California and Hong Kong, and I have presented workshops for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian Resident Associates. A member of Passio, Trio Sefardi and the contradance band Are We There Yet, I teach, perform, improvise, produce recordings, compose and arrange and write popular and scholarly articles, most recently an article on musical borrowing and arranging for this fall\'s Early Music America magazine. I have been given a Special Education Achievement Award by Early Music America and four Wammies for best classical instrumentalist by the Washington Area Music Association.
