Development lead of new backend application to replace and improve on existing 3rd party system for recording disruptions to bus services. Developed from scratch using Java 21, Spring Boot, Amazon Aurora MySQL• Rewrote legacy application to follow modern design patterns when using Redis and AWS Lambdas, significantly improving the efficiency of the application which resulted in reduced latency for customer API calls and reduced AWS costs. Application written using Python, deployed to Lambda functions in AWS• Rewrote existing application that handles getting location and geographic data from Google for use in other systems. Improved design resulted in fewer API calls to Google, resulting in a cost reduction of approximately 66%• Added performance and application metrics to existing applications - enabling auto recovery of data feeds, and much quicker diagnosis when systems/applications failed or performance dropped.• Led regular out-of-hours production releases with development and QA teams, including debugging, rollbacks, and incident management in rare occurrences when there were problems with deployment
