ABOUT TIM ROTMANS

I’m an aerospace engineer specializing in Flight Dynamics and Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) systems for space missions, with additional expertise in low-thrust trajectory optimization, orbit design, and mission analysis. My academic background is rooted in space exploration, orbital mechanics, and the numerical simulation and optimization of spacecraft trajectories.During my master’s thesis, I explored an interstellar solar-sail mission targeting Proxima b, the closest known exoplanet within the habitable zone of Proxima Centauri. One of the most exciting things about this research was that I could combine two of my favorite subjects: spaceflight and astrophysics. In my current role as Flight Dynamics Engineer I’m focusing more on the operational side of space. I do operational work, within the different dynamics of the GEO and LEO environment, including fuel efficient maneuver computations, orbit determination, conjunction analysis, and more. Beyond my technical expertise, I’m interested in promoting a sustainable and responsible space industry. I\'m trying to become more engaged in the evolving conversation around space policy, ethics, and governance, areas I believe are becoming just as essential as the engineering behind our missions. Shoot me a message if you like to discuss or collaborate on these topics!I\'m also weirdly passionate about the Universe and all its mysteries. Much to the annoyance of the people around me sometimes, I love to talk about topics like black holes, CMB, dark matter/energy, or, one of my favorites: pulsars.
