About Timothy Nikolai
I am privileged to lead the American Heart Association\'s efforts to improve health across the rural Midwest. Health disparities exist in many communities and residents of rural areas live an average of three years less than their urban counterparts, but it doesn\'t have to stay that way. I am committed to working with organizations, associations, and individuals who share our vision for creating policies and systems that support, rather than, inhibit health. That means listening - to experience and perspective - collaborating to find solutions and approaches that are meaningful in a local context, and celebrating - acknowledging success to confirm sustainability and inspire others. Areas of focus include chronic disease management, addressing nutrition security, supporting tobacco prevention and cessation, and supporting cardiac emergency readiness.
