About Timothy Lent

I’m an educator and professional learning leader passionate about strengthening writing instruction and empowering teachers with the tools, strategies, and confidence to help all students succeed. Over the past decade, I’ve designed and facilitated professional learning experiences, built widely adopted curricula, and partnered with schools and districts nationwide to advance inquiry-driven, student-centered teaching. My expertise bridges curriculum and PL design, facilitation, and coaching. Highlights include:Imagine Learning: At Imagine Learning, I lead the professional learning team for Traverse, an innovative new social studies program. I develop and facilitate in-person and virtual PL that mirrors the inquiry-based, and student-centered instruction at the heart of the program, in addition to creating asynchronous versions of our trainings. I guide administrators and teachers through a successful implementation of the program through PL offerings that include evidence-based coaching cycles, learning walks, and workshops that address inquiry-driven planning, skill instruction, the Science of Reading in social studies, and engagement through collaboration and discussion.New Visions for Public Schools: I co-created the New Visions Social Studies Curriculum, a free, comprehensive program used by tens of thousands of teachers. I designed assessments, facilitated a year-long PD series for NYC educators, and coached teachers and leaders throughout New York State. In response to students’ literacy needs, I developed the Social Studies Writing Toolbox, a collection of resources to help students improve their sentence, paragraph, and essay writing skills to help them communicate their ideas and prepare for the NYS Regents Exams.Classroom Experience: As a high school and middle school social studies teacher, I created culturally relevant and inquiry-based courses, integrated writing skill instruction into the curriculum, and led grade-level and departmental teams. I also co-presented PD sessions on evidence-based writing instruction, data-driven feedback, and student growth monitoring.Across every role, I’ve combined research-based pedagogy, writing-focused instructional design, and a commitment to educational equity. Whether presenting at conferences, creating on-demand learning resources, or coaching teachers one-on-one, I focus on ensuring professional learning directly translates into stronger outcomes for students. My goal is to help teachers get the resources they need to create engaging courses and address the literacy needs of their students.
