About Timothy York

Tim York is the CEO of the California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement (LGMA). The LGMA works with iceberg and leaf lettuce shippers throughout CA on food safe practices. The LGMA works with industry, scientists, researchers, regulators, and other experts to define the best farming practices for safe food, then audits that those practices are being followed. Approximately 99% of covered products are LGMA certified. In 1985, Markon Cooperative became the first company to select and buy produce exclusively for foodservice customers. Tim York led the company as CEO from 19••••20. Under Tim’s leadership, Markon grew to be the largest fresh produce foodservice purchasing cooperative in the U.S, servicing more than accounts. The company’s collective members\' annual sales are in excess of $26 billion.Tim was integral to the founding and success of the Center for Produce Safety at the University of California, Davis, and was the founding board chair. On another front, Tim co-founded the Stewardship Index for Specialty Crops, a coalition of industry, scientists, public officials and NGOs. The Stewardship Index works to identify a common set of practical outcome-based sustainability metrics.Tim has won several industry awards recognizing his contributions to the produce industry and food safety.
