Tim is also certified in Critical Incident Stress Management (CCISM) and is an approved instructor of CISM. Tim is active with the National Athletic Trainers\' Association as the chair of the Committee on Professional Ethics (COPE), and is a member of the Professional Responsibility Committee (PRC), and with ATs Care, a peer-to-peer support program for athletic trainers following a critical incident. Tim is also a member of the NATA Athletic Training Education Journal editorial board. Tim is currently the NATA liaison to Mental Health America.Tim participates on several boards; The Jed Foundation board of experts, College Athletics and the Law Publication editorial board, Training and Conditioning Magazine & Athletic Business editorial board, and Sidelined USA board of advisors.Tim is also currently serving on the Ohio Alumni Association Board of Directors. ABOUT TIMOTHY NEAL
Timothy Neal is a National Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame Athletic Trainer and is a nationally recognized leader and innovator of athletic health care, athletic risk management, concussion assessment and care, emergency preparedness, physical examinations, athlete cardiac issues, athlete mental health considerations, cost-effective methods in managing medical testing and care, professional staff development, and policy creation. Mr. Neal has written dozens of articles and spoken nationally on various sports medicine topics and risk management issues to national organizations. Mr. Neal is also a licensed social worker who practice is in providing psychological counseling. Mr. Neal earned his MSW degree from Ohio University in 2023 and obtained his limited license in social work in the state of Michigan in early 2024.Mr. Neal has authored dozens of peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed articles in ethics, concussion management, athlete mental health, risk management, physical examination process, cardiac considerations for athletes, and other topics in the area of sports medicine. Mr. Neal speaks at national, regional, and state meetings on numerous sports medicine topics to athletic trainers, physicians, coaches and administrators, and student-athletes. Mr. Neal is heavily involved in National Athletic Trainers\' Association committeess, task forces, and work groups, including chair of the NATA Committee on Professional Ethics (COPE), being a founding committee member of the NATA ATs Care Committee, and a founding member of the NATA Professional Responsibility Athletic Training Committee (PRAT). Mr. Neal has chaired two NATA Inter-Association Consensus Statements on developing a plan to recognize and refer student-athletes for psychological concerns, first for collegiate athletes (2013), and for secondary school athletes (2015). Mr. Neal was also on the writing group for the NATA Position Statement: Physical Examinations and Medically Disqualifying Conditions in 2014. As NATA Liaison to the NCAA Football Rules Committee from 20••••09, Mr. Neal authored language for the helmet contact penalty (known today as the targeting penalty).
