About Timothy McDonnell
I have been a practicing physician scientist for over 20 years. My clinical activities are in the area of diagnostic hematopathology. My research program is devoted to mechanistic studies focused on clinically relevant issues in cancer biology, for example, molecular mechanisms of therapeutic resistance. A variety of approaches are employed varying from histopathology to molecular biology. We were among the first groups to demonstrate the importance of BCL2 as a regulator of apoptotic cell death. We have devoted considerable effort to developing and adapting methodologies to undertake genome-wide assessments from human tumor samples, including archived formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue. The ultimate goal of these studies is to enable rational stratification of patients with cancer and develop effective, mechanism-based therapies. I engage in consulting activities and participate in government research advisory panels. I enjoy educational and mentoring/career development activities including those related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
