Serves as the Deputy to the Chief of Staff, USAWC. Works closely with other USAWC leaders in providing continuity of leadership in assessing mission and work requirements and developing plans, goals, and objectives. As a Direct Reporting Unit, attends high level meetings of steering committees, councils, and advisory boards, serving both, as the Chief of Staff representative and command representative. Meets with elected or appointed officials of state and local government, SES, flag and general officers, and international visitors to advance organizational objectives, and to resolve immediate and long range issues/challenges affecting the command. Executes processes for moving the command forward towards strategic goals. Leads the establishment and review of performance objectives and metrics in support of command objectives. Maintains a continuous program of review and analysis to assess the progress and effectiveness of the organization in relation to program objectives, budgetary limitations, schedules and command priorities. Reviews work efforts within command staff to ensure continued support to mission elements of the command as well as progress and timeliness of products. Identifies problem areas, coordinates corrective action and directs changes to implement improvements as necessary. Develops overall strategy for moving the command forward to support a virtual operating environment. Establishes and maintains liaison with tenant units both in and outside the local community. Prepares and conducts briefings and presentations to review accomplishments or report potential problem areas. Conducts Command Briefing to a variety of audiences. Makes Command decisions considering a broad spectrum of factors to include public relations and policy, Congressional actions, labor-management relations, economic impact and impact on other organizations.
