About Timothy Cross

I am director of operations and external relations at the Center for Earth Ethics at Union Theological Seminary in New York. From 2021 to 2023, I was CEE\'s director of communications. My expertise includes communications and marketing; advancement and donor relations; event planning; research; grants administration; board development and governance; strategic planning and project development; and management.From 2016 to 2020, I was executive director of the National Institute of Social Sciences. Previously, I held a series of positions at Columbia University’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, including advancement communications officer and director of strategic initiatives at the Center for Technology, Innovation and Community Engagement. In this capacity, I was a key player on all the center’s activities, including academic service-learning, grant writing and stewardship, and communications. I also helped design, implement, and manage the school’s government collaborations, including projects with the New York City Economic Development Corporation and the development of the Columbia-Harlem Small Business Development Center. Before joining the engineering school, I worked in a variety of positions at Columbia College, the university\'s undergraduate school.I have taught at Columbia University, Barnard College, New York University, and the New School, and I am the author of \"An Oasis of Order: The Core Curriculum at Columbia College\"(1995).I earned his master’s and doctorate in European history from Columbia University, and his bachelor’s degree with high honors from Swarthmore College. I also studied at the Université de l’Etat de Liège, Belgium. A former Fulbright Scholar in Belgium-Luxembourg, I was selected twice as a President’s Fellow at Columbia University.
