ABOUT TIM HYLAND

I am a technologist, an advisor, and a mentor, with over 30 years experience in Silicon Valley and similar companies primarily in the consumer space, both large and small. I enjoy helping entrepreneurs, start-ups, and small businesses successfully move their visions from the white board to reality. My work has involved creating embedded software, mobile browsers and platforms, consumer apps, smart TVs, social media applications, video streaming services, digital media store-fronts, the Internet of Things (IoT), and tools for water conservation. To keep things interesting, my first job was designing afterburners for the jet engines used in the F-18 Hornet, and I took a couple of years off from high tech to run a contemporary art gallery in Union Square, San Francisco. One of the skills that has contributed to my success is my ability to “translate” the terms and language spoken by technologists, engineers, and architects into terms and language understood by executives, attorneys, and other business people who lack a technical background, and vice versa. I use diplomacy, active listening, and my in-depth knowledge of engineering, executive management, and customer relations to develop win-win solutions to tough problems. This experience allows me to facilitate communications both between and within companies, standards bodies, and trade associations.
