About Tim Culvahouse
I’m a writer and an editor. I’m an architect, as well, but it’s been a long time since I’ve practiced as one, except around the house. The most visible thing I do is help architects tell stories, to share their knowledge and experience with clients, colleagues, students, and the world at large. Less visible is what the process of telling a story can do for the person who’s telling it. You can learn a lot when you tell a story about your work, or your firm, or yourself. That’s because, to tell it, you have to figure out what it is. If you spend time with someone who asks good questions and listens not just to your answers but also to their echoes, you may find that your story is more interesting than you thought. And an interesting story can take you a long way. Mostly, though, people get where they want to go not through publication but through conversation. So the question is: How can you use a story to spark a conversation. and with whom?
