About Tim Walters
I am a botanist, wetland and wildlife ecologist, and project manager whose responsibilities include conducting terrestrial and aquatic plant community surveys; stream surveys; faunal surveys; permitting (federal, state, Isolated); mitigation planning, design, and monitoring; and threatened and endangered plant surveys. I specialize in wetland, monitoring and restoration projects assisting port authorities, transportation departments and power generating facilities for over 25 years. I\'ve conducted hundreds of wetland delineation studies in 24 states using seven of USACE’s regional supplements, been trained in wetland mitigation hydrology planning and has created mitigation/restoration plans for over 50 sites ranging from 1 – 200 acres. I have provided construction oversight for several of these sites, creating planting lists and monitoring methods. Also, for many of these he has completed the required monitoring and reporting per agency standards. He has been trained for federal endangered species consultation by the USFWS and over 15 different wetland and stream assessment methods by several different state agencies. I was selected as a trainer for the EPA’s National Wetland Condition Assessment where I trained federal, state, and consultant field crews and has earned my Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) from the Society of Wetland Scientists. I have been considered one of the most respected botanists, performing rare plant surveys and community ecology assessments in some of the most rare and diverse areas of the United States. I have conducted plant collections, surveys, and identifications in 48 States, Canada, and Brazil. Though my individual research, I have completed fully vouchered floral and community surveys of natural areas and provided management recommendations for park districts and conservation agencies. This has included the collection and submission of over plant specimens for permanent curation to several university and museum herbaria. I teach wetland, graminoid (sedge and grass) and composite classes (Asteraceae) for the past 10 years. These have been well attended by federal (USACE, EPA, NRCS, NPA), state (EPA) and county agencies, and consulting firms. I have also given special focus classes for groups (i.e. wetland plants identification). see http://carexclasses.webs.com/
