About Tim Sternberg

I am an editor, music supervisor, photographer and director who has extensive experience in both the narrative feature and documentary worlds. I started my career working in the editing rooms of Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope Studios in San Francisco while still in high school. After moving to New York, I’ve worked in positions as diverse as sound effects recorder on Nora Ephron’s SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE and Robert Benton’s THE HUMAN STAIN, assistant editing on Martin Scorsese\'s A PERSONAL JOURNEY WITH MARTIN SCORSESE THROUGH AMERICAN MOVIES, re- editing the 1992 OSCAR® winning MEDITTERANEO for US release, music editing for Milos Forman’s GOYAS GHOSTS and the OSCAR® Winning THE BLOOD OF YINGZHOU DISTRICT directed by Ruby Yang. In 2008, my short film SALIM BABA was nominated for an OSCAR® for Best Short Documentary. After airing on HBO, and Canal+ it received an Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Culture Programming. It also won the Julius Epstein Humanitarian Award at the Cleveland Film Festival, Best Short Documentary at the Woodstock Film Festival and went on to play at over 150 festivals worldwide. This led to co-producing and directing HBO’s EL ESPÍRITU DE LA SALSA, which premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival. Since then I’ve had the honor of being an additional editor and music supervisor under Walter Murch on Mark Levinson\'s PARTICLE FEVER and music supervisor on WAR DON DON for director Rebecca Richman Cohen. I also co-directed and edited the documentary DREAMING AGAINST THE WORLD which played at the 2015 Telluride Film Festival, DOC NYC and the New York Asia Society, edited feature documentaries THE THIRD INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION for Vice’s head creative, Director Eddy Moretti, DANNY SAYS for director Brendan Toller and THE BIT PLAYER for director Mark Levinson. My TV editorial credits include INTO THE UNKNOWN: THE MAKING OF FROZEN 2 for ABC, DOCTOR’S ORDERS for ID, STOLEN YOUTH for HULU and 2020 for ABC.
