Tim Cook, Director of Research and Chief Historian at the Canadian War Museum, has published nineteen books. No Place To Run: The Canadian Corps and Gas Warfare in the First World War received the C.P. Stacey Award. Clio’s Warriors: Canadian Historians and the Writing of the World Wars (2006) examined the many battles over the writing of military history and the importance of the nation\'s war archives. His two-volume history of Canadians fighting in the Great War, At the Sharp End and Shock Troops, were finalists for several awards and winners of the 2007 J.W. Dafoe Prize, 2008 Ottawa Book Award, and 2009 Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction. The Madman and the Butcher: The Sensational Wars of Sam Hughes and General Arthur Currie, was a finalist for the Shaunessy-Cohen prize for political writing, the J.W Dafoe Prize, and the Ottawa Book Award. His 2012 book, Warlords: Borden, Mackenzie King and the Canada’s World Wars, was a finalist for several awards. The Necessary War: Canadians Fighting the Second World War, volume I (2014), was awarded the C.P. Stacey prize for the best book in Canadian military history. Fight to the Finish: Canadians Fighting the Second World War, volume II (2015), was awarded the Ottawa Book Award for Literary Non-Fiction. Vimy: Battle and Legend was published in March 2017 as a No. 1 national best-seller. It was awarded the 2017 J.W. Dafoe prize and was runner-up for the 2017 Templer Prize awarded by the Society of Army Historical Research. The Secret History of Soldiers: How Canadians Survived the Great War (2018) was a national bestseller and won the 2019 Ottawa Book Award for Non-Fiction. In June 2020, he published, with co-editor J.L. Granatstein, Canada 1919: A Nation Shaped by War; and in September 2020, the third volume in his Canada and the Second World War series, The Fight for History: 75 Years of Forgetting, Remembering, and Remaking Canada\'s Second World War. In 2022, Cook published Lifesavers and Body Snatchers: Medical Care and the Struggle for Survival in the Great War, and it was longlisted for the Templer Prize and won the 2023 Ottawa Book Award for Literary Non-Fiction. In May 2024, he published, with co-editor Andrew Burtch, Canada and the Korean War. In September 2024, The Good Allies was published; it explores Canada and the US in the Second World War.
