About Jackie Tidwell

Question everything. Keep it simple. Make it magical. That is my mantra. I work at the intersection of technology and humans. I write prose on computer screens that propel customers to success. Along the way, I entertain my peers by being as Texan as I am, y\'all.I have a solid background in user experience, user interfaces, and the content to support it. I work with anyone and everyone to deliver the best experiences to our customers, regardless of the time zones that separate us. My experience spans accessibility, content and user interface writing, prototype design, graphic design, site navigation, content layout and planning, data planning and metrics, and user research. My public persona blurb:Jackie Tidwell found her passion at the intersection of technology and English and has written documentation and UI content for companies of all sizes. For the past 10 years she\'s worked at Microsoft, creating content and UI for nearly all Office products, the accessibility guidance in https://aka.ms/officeaccessibility, and content design for the Microsoft 365 admin center, which is used by millions of customers globally. When not trying to save the world from poor UI, Jackie can be found watching horror movies with her partner, spoiling her cat-sons, or designing tattoos for English nerds.

Experience

  1. Senior Content Designer

    Microsoft

Feb 2012 — Present · Redmond, WA, US

What I do• Works on Copilot experiences in the Microsoft 365 admin center. • Writes easy-to-understand prose that is concise and helpful, creating a narrative that customers can easily follow.• Advocates for our customers using their own words gathered from telemetry, user research, and in-person co-development sessions.• Uses A/B testing, user testing, and usage data to make sure the solutions worked well, and to find out how we could make it even better.• Influences product design and strategy without authority (but sometimes with authority) by promoting empathy for the customers.• Delivers quick-twitch responses to customers when needed. • Drives cross-group collaboration and applies critical thinking and creative solutions in a dynamic and highly ambiguous work environment.• Works with content writers when customers might need extra guidance for a task.• As an accessibility specialist, advocates for accessible UX.• Optimized our work management process using Microsoft Power Automate to project and track work. What I\'ve done• Led a co-development session with Fortune 500 customers to understand their concerns around implementing Copilot into their environments and what we can provide to set them up for success.• Managed a team of vendors to create 300+ topics for 60+ product/platform combinations aimed specifically for people with disabilities that use Microsoft Office products. Ensured the weight of said content didn\'t impact SEO for existing content by developing a tabbed structure pattern in each article to expose specific instructions for each platform for the product.• Created a central area on support.office.com to host all accessibility content at a single site, Office Accessibility Center (linked below).• Worked with product teams to develop customer-focused strings and UI workflows for Microsoft 365 including but not limited to: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for Windows, macOS, iPad, iPhone, Android, Web.
