About Tiago MacArios

I have been shipping CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) software professionally for 6 years. For the last 2 years I have been working as a C++ developer and, prior to that, I worked with python and other domain-focused languages (Matlab, Fortran.). I have also developed a strong interest is software development practices and hold a ScrumMaster certification. While working at ESI Group developing the VA One software (the de facto standard acoustic simulation software) my main contributions were- developing a workflow (customizable software) to solve embarrassingly parallel simulations as efficiently as possible. This made me develop a deep knowledge of scheduling systems. I also extended this workflow to work with cloud-based resources (EC2) so if customers did not have the necessary in-house capacity they could off-load to the cloud. This workflow is a cornerstone to our software- improving ESI\'s software development practices. I lead a project in which we adopted modern software development practices. This project has been extremely successful and is routinely used as an example for other groups in the company as an example of good practices. I believe that the only constant in software development is change and this is one of the things that motivates me the most. Technology stacks change, user requirements change, the development team changes, and yet the product has to be shipped in a timely manner. This is why I do my best to keep up with technology and to understand how I can motivate my team to deliver software at higher standards.
