ABOUT THORSTEN TERWEIDEN

I am an experienced trade & investment promotion professional with more than 20 years work experience, mostly in leadership positions. Until recently I led the efforts to attract high quality investments from Europe from key industry sectors into the City of Melbourne and the State of Victoria, Australia. Until 2023 I was heading the International Office for Economic Development of the City of Magdeburg where he was part of the team that was responsible for the investment win from Intel Corp, the largest in the history of post-war Germany. In 2019 I moved back to Germany from the UK and took over as the Deputy Head of Trade and Investment of the UK Department for International Trade Germany at the British Embassy in Berlin. In September 2016 I was appointed as the first ever Deputy Head of Fintech at Invest Hong Kong. As European Fintech Lead I was instrumental in attracting investments of some of the UK\'s leading Fintech scale-ups to Hong Kong. In 2015 I joined the Invest Hong Kong UK office in London and was responsible for Technology & Innovation as well as Financial Services sectors. In the previous decade I had risen through the ranks at the Swiss Business Hub UK, the Swiss export & investment promotion agency in the UK where I was working on promoting Swiss exports from sectors ranging from sustainable construction to defence. In the early noughties I successfully delivered aftersales services and contributed to new model marketing campaigns as a team leader in the automotive industry in Luton/England. I have extensive coaching, recruiting, project managing and public speaking experience. During my degree course from 1994 until I gained valuable insight into European and German politics as well as diplomacy through internships at both the European and German parliaments as well as the German Embassy in Israel. I gathered export promotion experience in the Business Promotion Department of the German-British Chamber of Commerce in London in 1997.
