About Tom Coffey
I got my start in reinsurance as a treaty broking intern with Benfield in 2003, joined Benfield full-time upon graduation from Emory University in 2005, and became an Aon employee when Benfield was acquired by Aon in 2008. At Benfield and Aon Benfield, I worked on a variety of property and casualty treaties, served clients ranging from small specialty and regional insurers to global insurance behemoths, and ceded over $500M of premium to the reinsurance market.In 2012, I left Aon and Philadelphia to move to Austin and enroll in the MBA program at the University of Texas at Austin. After graduating with my MBA, I worked in a variety of insurtech roles including founder, consultant, and employee. These efforts generated $100M plus of premium from new insurance products and millions in incremental annual recurring revenue from SaaS insurtech sales.In early 2022, I became a father then, in late 2022, the startup he was working for ran out of cash and abruptly ceased operations. Those life events convinced me to return to reinsurance where there is more stability relative to insurtech. I tapped into my Aon network, identified, and accepted a role on Aon Reinsurance Solutions’ Facilities team that will allow me to leverage my treaty broking experience while helping to develop innovative new reinsurance products with some insurtech elements.I’m a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter and Associate in Reinsurance.
