When I was a kid, we celebrated Easter at my Nana and Grandpa’s house. Like other families, there was an Easter egg hunt. Unlike other families, our hunt was more than competitive – I still have a scar from getting pushed into the rose bushes. My cousin, Vinnie, brother, Christian, and I would line up in a starter position by the back door. At the signal, we would race to see who could find the few plastic eggs with the money inside. As we tallied our take, our family would ask what we planned to do with our money. To instill the importance of saving, Nonno (my other grandpa) would promise to double our money if we deposited it in the savings-account he’d opened for us. It was at a very young age I learned the power of saving and planning.September 22, 2013 was the best and worst day of my life. I had just won my first professional football game on the road, but on the bus ride to the airport, my mom called to tell me that my Nonno had passed away. It didn’t take long to realize I would need to step into Nonno’s shoes and assume responsibility for the financial literacy of the family. Just as he had done for me when I was younger, it was time for me to teach the lessons Nonno had taught me.I love to teach, mentor and coach. My passion is helping people recognize their potential and watching them work toward achieving their goals. Bringing clarity about the steps that need to be taken is what I do best.My family and I love the Pacific Northwest and call Vancouver, Washington home. When I am not advising or building spreadsheets, I am spending time with my family, trying my best to stay in shape, planning our next travel adventure, enjoying an IPA outside or catching up with friends.Monique Smith is part of my team and has been with Edward Jones since 2021. When she is not in the office, she is enjoying the outdoors or visiting with family and friends. Monique and I work together to ensure all our clients get the piece of mind they deserve.
