ABOUT THOMAS BRYANS

I’m an architect, strategic designer, and urban futurist exploring how we can reimagine cities to be more joyful, inclusive and resilient. I believe in the power of design and collective imagination to shape better futures.I’m Co-Founder and Director of IF_DO, an architecture practice driven by social impact, and Executive Director of IF/ Design Labs, a new think tank dedicated to urban futures. IF/ builds on the values and experience of IF_DO, expanding that work into research, strategy, design foresight and learning programmes to help communities, organisations and cities navigate systemic urban challenges. The visions we articulate today—consciously or not—help shape the realities of tomorrow. That’s why my work focusses on place futuring, strategic design and the psychological dimensions of the built environment: to develop more intentional, imaginative and systemic approaches to both architecture and urban transformation.IF/ develops futures strategies grounded in real-world context. Our visioning processes helps connect people to place, and to possible futures. This work is amplified by the ongoing architectural practice of IF_DO, which continues to deliver buildings with social impact at their core, helping to shape better futures for the communities in which they’re built. These two strands—the IF and the DO—are deeply connected: each informs and strengthens the other.I’m always open to new conversations, whether around collaboration, research, speaking or project opportunities, particularly where design can play a role in shaping more equitable and imaginative urban futures. I’m a writer, TEDx speaker and regularly contribute to public discourse on the future of cities.
