ABOUT THOMAS VOLZ
Dr Volz is an experimental quantum physicist who has worked across a wide range of quantum systems, from ultracold quantum gases to integrated quantum photonic and polaritonic devices to nanodiamonds. He has made major contributions to each field. Dr Volz is currently building up Quandela GmbH, the German branch of the well-known French photonic quantum computing company Quandela. In parallel, he holds a professorship at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. His research group Quantum Materials and Applications was part of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQUS), a national quantum initiative that has left a lasting legacy in the Australian quantum landscape. Besides his academic work, Dr Volz has co-founded Sydney-based startup Redback Systems which builds high-precision optical spectrometers for scientific and industrial applications. Dr Volz is excited about the present investment landscape in quantum technology in general, and the future of photonic quantum computing in particular.
