ABOUT THOMAS V. SCHULTZ

Thomas Schultz is a Technical Project Officer with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of State and Community Energy Programs supporting the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) formula program in the Midwest region. EECBG grants support 14 categories of eligible projects aimed at reducing fossil fuel emissions, improving energy efficiency, and building a clean and equitable economy that prioritizes disadvantaged communities. He was formerly, the Data and Program Manager for the Cincinnati 2030 District, an initiative of Greater Cincinnati climate collaborative Green Umbrella, that supports improvements in commercial building performance and benchmarking. An alumnus of the Environmental Defense Fund Climate Corps Fellow program working for the Office of Environment and Sustainability in his hometown of Cincinnati on building efficiency and data analysis. Tom was formerly an Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Consultant with ICF focusing on energy efficiency projects, specifically in support of the U.S. EPA\'s ENERGY STAR Program. Tom earned his Masters of Public Affairs concentrating in sustainability and sustainable development, and a professional certificate in social entrepreneurship from the O\'Neil School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University.He is a Returned Environmental Education and Conservation Peace Corps Volunteer, completing his 27-month service in Paraguay focused on the environment. A natural and likable leader, his practical people skills allow him to motivate and persuade his associates to work with him on common goals with a minimum of friction. His quicksilver sense of humor helps solidify these ties. His perseverance and deep thinking enable him to overcome obstacles and problem-solve to reach positive outcomes. He enjoys writing and using words and is an effective orator.Visits to forty countries have prompted a keen curiosity and adaptability to the larger world. Tom\'s double major in East Asian Studies-Chinese and Environmental Studies, the first such double major at Denison University, was lauded as an essential innovation and contribution to the curriculum. His language competencies in Guaraní and Spanish belies a keen interest in relating to people of other cultures. He has coped well with harsh conditions and difficult situations. Extra-curricular interests include playing basketball and golf, cooking, writing, and reading.
