ABOUT THOMAS SCHRATWIESER
After graduating from H-B Woodlawn Secondary School in Arlington, VA, I moved to the UK to pursue my BSc reading Physics at the University of St Andrews. Upon completion I commenced an MSc in Photonics and Optoelectronic Devices as a programme between St Andrews and Heriot-Watt University, during which time I worked at the National Physical Laboratory in London working on injection locking diode lasers to single comb modes of metrology-grade femtosecond optical frequency combs. It wasn\'t long after my MSc viva to when I began my PhD building high-repetition-rate lasers for frequency comb generation.During my time at Heriot-Watt I taught undergraduates and postgraduates laboratory methods and was the founding president of our university\'s student chapter of the Optical Society of America. I also engaged in science education outreach to science fairs throughout Scotland demonstrating fundamental physics.I recently completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship with the Army Research Laboratory in Adelphi, Maryland, during which I focussed on combining research techniques utilising ultrafast optics with electron sources to study ultrafast dynamics in materials.I am now using this background in metrology and photonics as a scientific consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton.
