About Thomas Royer

For me, Beech Brook is something of a family legacy. My grandparents were Beech Brook house parents in the 50s and 60s and as a kid, I spent weekends with them at Beech Brook’s group home playing side-by-side with the kids receiving services. I grew up at Beech Brook, where I learned the value of service and community early on—and that perspective shapes the leader I am today. In 1991, I made it official and began working at Beech Brook in the School-Based program, working directly with troubled kids and their families. From there, I worked his way up through a variety of leadership roles until becoming CEO in 2017. Having spent my entire career at Beech Brook, I bring a rare perspective: I know this work from the ground up. Under my leadership, Beech Brook has been named a Top Workplace by cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer six years running, thanks to focusing on culture, collaboration, and making sure staff feel just as supported as the kids they serve. And one thing people at Beech Brook know for sure—every decision I make comes back to one question: what’s best for the kids and families? I understand the complex challenges facing parents, children, and communities today, and bring clarity, historical context, and actionable insight to areas around mental health, parenting, child welfare, and building stronger communities – and I do it all in a way that’s easy to understand. At the same time, I try to bring hope, humor, and a lifelong belief that outcomes can improve when we focus on what truly works for the most vulnerable among us.And if you really want to get me going? Ask about the Cleveland Browns. I haven’t missed a game in more than 45 years, which tells you everything about my loyalty, passion, and maybe a touch of stubborn Brook has been helping Northeast Ohio’s children and families thrive since 1852, providing mental health services, family support, and early childhood programs. Its school-based behavioral health and support services are available in more than 60 schools across Cuyahoga, Lorain, Summit, and Geauga counties, ensuring students have access to the care and resources they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
