ABOUT THOMAS MARCZAK

I joined MaineHealth\'s legal department as corporate counsel in 2014. I advise and provide legal services for MaineHealth and its members on a wide array of subjects, including patient care, patient privacy, informed consent, intellectual property, professional liability & risk management, and regulatory requirements. Prior to that I spent six years as a litigator at Maine\'s then-largest litigation-only firm, practicing a wide array of municipal, professional liability and insurance defense law. I was named a Rising Star in New England by SuperLawyers in 2014 and was recognized in Fall 2014 as a member of Katahdin Counsel for Maine for the second consecutive year for providing pro bono legal services. In the past I have volunteered with the Maine Homeless Legal Project at Preble Street Resource Center and I am entering my sixth year on the Board of Trustees and Youth and Family Outreach. I have served on the Leadership Advisory Board of the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association and am a past District Representative for Maine and Vermont to the YLD. I previously served for five years on the board of governors for the New Lawyers Section of the Maine State Bar Association. I was also a founding member of the board of directors for Portland Greendrinks. I graduated cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law in 2008 and while there received the Pro Bono Publico Award for work volunteering for the ACLU. In 2005 I received a Bernstein Fellowship, serving as law clerk to the Honorable Joseph H. Field of the West Bath District Court. I received my B.A, magna cum laude, in Television, Radio and Film Production from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. While at Syracuse, I was the head manager for the men\'s basketball team under Coach Jim Boeheim.
