ABOUT THOMAS LEAH
I am currently studying Real Estate BSc (RICS accredited) at the University of the West of England. This course is a 4 year course, as I have decided to take a year in industry to enhance my knowledge and gain some practical experience for my final year. Currently I am looking to make connections within the industry. This course has been a great insight into the industry, and I have really enjoyed building connections, visiting different offices, attending careers fairs, and participating in seminars. My favourite module so far this year has been Rating and Taxation, which included visiting an office in Bulls Wharf, Bristol. I spent some time measuring the NIA of the office building and preparing for a mock negotiation exercise with the VOA. I have loved putting some of my negotiation and professional skills into practice, helping me learn how to perform in a formal environment. Furthermore, I have exercised my interests outside of the classroom, most recently by completing two weeks work experience at Fowler Fortescue rural asset management. During the experience I shadowed a company director which saw me visiting various estates, meeting with clients, taking part in valuations and doing comparative research – this helped me to acquire skills that are relevant in not only the rural sector, but also the commercial sector.
