About Thomas Kearney

I am a seasoned trial attorney who has tried more than 50 cases to verdict, first as a federal and county prosecutor and now as a defense attorney. Before joining HDRB & B, I served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, working in the Special Prosecutions Division, National Security Unit, and Organized Crime/Gangs Unit. My work involved leading complex investigations into political corruption, racketeering, terrorism, money laundering, and large-scale fraud. Earlier in my career, I served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Bergen County, trying and supervising serious criminal matters.That experience taught me how to read trial strategy and anticipate opposing counsel’s next move. Today, I use that insight to craft strategic, proactive defenses for my clients. I’m known for being a vigorous advocate in the courtroom and a steady, empathetic counselor outside of it.I earned my J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and my B.A. from Yale University, where I played football which laid the foundation that shaped my competitive drive and commitment to teamwork. Off the field (and out of the courtroom), I stay active in the Police Pipes and Drums of Bergen County, the Yale Football Association, and the Ignatian Spirituality Project.
