Legal protection for creations of the mind – a peculiar concept by early 19th century European scholars! But skip forward two hundred years and our legal system recognises intellectual property (IP) rights for a wide variety of intangible assets. And what’s more, the market value of companies’ intangible assets often considerably outweighs the value of their physical assets.So how do you know whether you have any IP? And how do you create it, use it, protect it, enforce it?I\'m a New Zealand Barrister & Solicitor, Patent Attorney, Trade Marks Attorney, and Australian Patent & Trade Marks Attorney. I specialise in all areas of intellectual property, from protection and maintenance, through commercialisation, enforcement, and dispute resolution. My focus is on practical dispute resolution, whether by way of negotiation, mediation, or official resolution channels. I have represented clients at all levels of the New Zealand Courts, the New Zealand and Australian Intellectual Property Offices, as well as before the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre, and the New Zealand Domain Name Dispute Resolution Service.I regularly deal with trade mark, copyright, patent, design, geographic indications, border control, and domain name matters, including- FTO, infringement and validity advice- Oppositions, applications for invalidity and revocation/removal, examination appeals- Monitoring, enforcement and takedown mechanisms- Domain name complaints- Counterfeiting and border control measures- Licences and commercialisation agreements- Dispute resolution, negotiations and litigation- Appeals
