About Thomas Halverson

Tom Halverson is Chief Executive Officer of CoBank, a $210 billion financial institution and one of the largest private providers of credit and financial services to the U.S. rural economy.Halverson has more than 30 years of global experience in the financial services industry. He began his banking career with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which was founded to help former Soviet-bloc countries transition to free-market economies. He later spent more than 16 years with Goldman Sachs in a variety of executive positions in Europe, Asia and North America, including as Chairman and then Managing Director and Chief of Staff for the firm’s Goldman Sachs Bank USA subsidiary. Halverson joined CoBank in 2013 as Chief Banking Officer, with responsibility for all banking and revenue operations. He was appointed as CEO of CoBank in January 2017. Halverson serves on a number of boards of industry organizations, including:• Federal Farm Credit Banks Funding Corporation (director);• National Council of Farmer Cooperatives (Executive Council member and former board chair);• Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy (board advisor);• Graduate Institute of Cooperative Leadership (director and former board chair);• Brookings-AEI Commission on U.S. Rural Prosperity (commission member); Halverson holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Wabash College and a doctorate degree in war studies from King’s College, University of London. He was a 1989 winner of the prestigious Marshall Scholarship and was later asked to serve on the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission from to 2001.
