I lead the S2S (subseasonal-to-seasonal) and Extreme Weather Team at the National Severe Storms Laboratory. Our research aims to increase understanding of the multiscale processes in time and space that contribute to the occurrence of severe storms hazards in the U.S. We also aim to improve the forecasts of severe storm hazards in traditional and AI-driven numerical weather prediction models through forecast verification and weather system dynamical diagnosis. In addition to publishing my own research on the multiscale dynamics and prediction of wildfire outbreaks, tornado outbreaks, flash flood events, and the Madden-Julian Oscillation, I serve as the co-lead of the NOAA/OAR Severe Weather Weeks 2-4 Tiger Team, lead of the Severe Weather Extended-Range forecasting and Verification Experiment (SWERVE), and facilitator for the Spring Forecasting Experiment (SFE).
