ABOUT THOMAS FINCH

I recently started a new position as an Estimator at Welty Energy.I was a Project Manager/Estimator at Black & McDonald in Vancouver, WA, where I joined in August 2021 alongside my former Kiewit colleague, Ben Weber. With strong support from the Black & McDonald team, our branch experienced rapid growth. In this role, I refined my estimating skills—particularly in unit pricing—and estimated or assisted in estimating over 70 projects. I managed a total of ten projects, encompassing both programmatic and hard-bid work.Prior to that, I worked at Kiewit Power Delivery’s Fort Worth office, where I developed takeoffs and unit rates for substation and transmission line estimates across Texas, Oklahoma, Nevada, and Florida. This role taught me the importance of accurate pricing and identifying which projects best align with a company’s strengths.Earlier in my career, I served as a field engineer with Kiewit Power Delivery (KPD). I began in January 2020 in the Lenexa office before moving to the field on the Entergy WREP MCPS North Project in February. There, I contributed to the construction of the Rocky Creek 345kV substation, organized and submitted all project documentation to the client, and supervised the installation of TRV capacitors at the Lewis Creek 138kV substation. This experience reinforced the vital role of safety on every jobsite, echoing my construction manager’s words: “If we can’t do the job safely, then we don’t do the job at all.”I earned my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas in December 2019. After graduating, I passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and became an Intern Engineer.
