ABOUT THOMAS BRIAULT

As an experienced and highly skilled adviser and chartered engineer in low carbon and sustainability energy solutions, I have been working on an extensive range of energy projects over the last 20 years, from concept through to construction around the world. With significant experience living and working across APAC and Europe, I have led and directed a wide variety of major complex and business-critical projects. I bring compelling strategic insight and understanding of the policy and regulatory environment. Currently based in the UK, I lead Arup’s Urban Energy and Energy Infrastructure teams in London. We provide consultancy and engineering design services on energy master planning, urban energy system design including district heating, offshore structures for renewable energy and renewable energy system design, hydrogen and low-carbon synthetic fuels.As the world transitions to a decarbonised economy, it faces some big challenges of energy trade, coal power station closures, grid transition and stability and future fuels. Each sector has different contexts which will shape the right solutions for them, but they have to work as a whole.I work with both private and public-sector clients to design integrated solutions that deliver against their carbon, climate and environmental requirements. Passionate about shaping a net zero future, I help government, cities and organisations make that transition to a green economy by advising on integrated renewable energy solutions including hydrogen, onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, batteries, district heating and cooling and heat pumps. I am a Chartered Engineer and am currently co-chair of the Independent Power Producers Forum (IPPF) Hydrogen Committee.
