Dr. Thomas Brewster is currently the Acting Director of Human Resources for Montgomery County Public Schools. His educational journey includes roles as a high school social studies teacher, assistant principal, high school principal, university professor, student services coordinator, deputy superintendent, and school superintendent.Before his role with Montgomery County, Dr. Brewster distinguished himself as the Dean of the School of Education and Social Sciences at Bluefield University. His visionary leadership led to the expansion of graduate programs, introducing degrees in educational leadership and counseling. As Superintendent of Pulaski County Public Schools from 2012 to 2016, he spearheaded initiatives that expanded advanced placement, dual enrollment, and workforce training opportunities for students. His strategic focus on improving digital connectivity significantly enhanced the district\'s educational landscape.Dr. Brewster\'s influence extends beyond administrative roles to key leadership positions in significant educational initiatives. He chaired the Commonwealth of Virginia Advisory Committee on Adult Education and Literacy, led the National Study Group \"The Power of Partnerships: Supporting Student Learners to Improve Graduation Rates\" for the National Association of State Boards of Education, and co-chaired the Taskforce on Workforce Readiness for the Virginia School Boards Association. Notably, in 2016, he received a prestigious invitation from Senator Mark Warner to join the Bipartisan Policy Center\'s Education and Workforce Roundtable for the United States Senate.Throughout his career, Dr. Brewster has received numerous accolades. In 2013, he was honored as the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce\'s Business Executive of the Year and received the Bluefield College Alumni of the Year award. His legacy is enshrined in the Pulaski County Career and Technical Center\'s Wall of Honor and the Tazewell High School Hall of Fame.Beyond education, Dr. Brewster has made a significant impact through his service on various boards and committees. His contributions include serving on the Virginia State Board of Education, the Virginia State Community College Board, the Bluefield University Board of Trustees, and the Radford University Board of Visitors. He has also served as a member of the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors.A native of Southwest Virginia, Dr. Brewster holds a doctorate from Virginia Tech, an MS from Radford University, and a BA from Bluefield College.
