   Every year approximately 140 college freshmen enter Marion Military Institute from across the United States hopeful in gaining appointments to one of our nation’s five Federal Service Academies:The United States Military Academy @ West Point, NYThe United States Naval Academy @ Annapolis, MDThe United States Air Force Academy @ Colorado Springs, COThe United States Coast Guard Academy @ New London, CTThe United States Merchant Marine Academy @ Kings Point, NYHistorically, approximately 85% of them realize their goal and dream of earning that appointment every year.I am privileged and honored to oversee Marion’s Service Academy program and, in particular, directly develop those seeking appointments to West Point. Development of Marion’s cadets’ character is paramount; preparing them for the rigors of leading men and women in combat demands selflessness, self-discipline, and unwavering commitment to doing what is morally and ethically right. Marion develops our cadets through challenging academic courses, adherence to strict military standards of performance, and a tough physical fitness regimen. I come in behind our professors and military leaders, developing our cadets individually. I thoroughly enjoy what I do with our young men and women.Marketing Marion with national leaders (e.g, Senators, Congressmen, and Congresswomen and their military liaison officials), recruiting the best and brightest in high schools across the South, and serving as liaison with each Service Academy and its Alumni Foundation constitute the second aspect of my responsibilities.Lastly, using military history as a vehicle, I teach leadership development to over 30 cadets, challenging them to grasp the daunting requirements of leading servicemen and servicewomen under austere conditions.I engage in the full life cycle of our aspiring Academy hopefuls, from marketing and recruiting, to developing each individually, to posturing them best for appointment into their Academy.
