About Roham Sheikholeslami

I am a creator, designer and entrepreneur with 20+ years of diverse experience in design from structures that people live in, to software products that millions of customers across the globe use and trust. Most of my UX career has been in the enterprise solutions B2B for design tools, marketing, e-commerce, marketplace, and the developer platforms. Currently, I lead a multi-disciplinary team of designers, researchers, technologists, and program managers for the Alexa Skills (Alexa Developer Platform). Our vision is to create the world’s leading self-service AI platform to empower any developer to craft high-quality experiences and make Alexa a natural part of everyday life. My team designs the new generation of voice interaction tools with advanced AI to shape the way humans interact with voice assistants.My career journey has given me a unique perspective on how to approach problem-solving with design-thinking. As an architect, I designed and built structures that are the embodiment of UX, and then I transitioned to HCI (Human Computer Interaction) and continued my passion of building products that customers love globally.Working in small and big companies, and running my own, has taught me a lot about failures and successes and how to move forward.These are the things I learned about myself throughout my personal and professional life:∙ I always start from customers and their needs, and work backwards from there.∙ I am a leader that can start and communicate bold direction that inspires results by thinking beyond what is possible today and challenging the status quo. I lead by example and motivate teams to achieve the impossible.∙ I am a builder with a track record of building successful teams and products at large-scale.∙ I prosper in ambiguity and innovate with given constraints∙ I have good instincts and judgement, but I seek data for my decisions.∙ I elevate the design-thinking across the organization and the company and not only my immediate team.∙ I am constantly learning whether how to use AI to create natural conversations or how to remove a tree stump in the backyard.∙ I practice mindfulness and growth mindset and help people around me to achieve their dreams.∙ I value emotional intelligence and build teams with compassionate, inclusive, and collaborative individuals. Outside work, I am a dad, bookworm, photographer and a technophile. I use any opportunity to teach my son about photography, sketching, dinosaurs, big-bang, sharks, and emotional intelligence.
