ABOUT THERESA MALONE

18 years of experience at the forefront of digital journalism• Specialist in digital strategy, delivery and newsroom operations with strong editorial background• Six years leading the Guardian\'s award-winning Visuals team• Editorial representative in the team behind the Guardian’s award-winning responsive website• Work closely with product managers, developers, data analysts, UX and design teams• Skills include editing, commissioning, production, social media, writing and project managementJournalism, today more than ever, demands flexibility. From writing and editing stories to meet tight deadlines, to single-handedly running a section of the Guardian’s US website and leading digital redesign projects, my career so far demonstrates the dynamism, editorial judgement, coordination skills and ambition required by the modern newsroom.I joined the Guardian as a subeditor on the fledgling Comment is free section of the website in 2006. I co-ordinated the launch of several innovative journalistic experiments, such as Blogging the Qu’ran, Liberty Central and Cif Belief. I travelled to Washington DC in 2008 to edit the US Opinion site during Obama’s historic election victory and returned to DC for six months in 2010 as the sole editor of that site.On my return, I led several digital projects around the Guardian’s policy of open journalism, including redesigns of the Books and Music sections of the website. I coordinated coverage of major cultural events including Glastonbury and the Edinburgh festival, and the Guardian’s first live streams from Glyndebourne, ensuring we made use of the latest innovations in digital storytelling. In 2014 I became an editorial representative in the team of developers and designers working on the Guardian’s responsive website. Since then, I have been a key point of contact between editorial and digital development and am now helping to deliver the Guardian’s latest strategy, re-imagining how journalism fits into our digital lives.
