THERESA J. BAKER is a Vice President and Associate General Counsel in the MetLife Law Department and manages the Regulatory, Global Government Relations, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Financial Crimes and Sustainability Unit. Theresa manages a team of ten professionals handling regulatory inquiries, investigations, market conduct and financial examinations, unclaimed property audits, SEC, FINRA, AML and AFC issues and other regulatory matters including corporate and transactional regulatory filings. Theresa also provides legal support to the Company\'s Sustainability Office reviewing regulatory changes focusing on climate-related risks and sustainability-related inquiries and communications. Theresa also provides legal advice to Global Government Relations on political law matters and to Global Communications on internal and external news releases. Theresa is also Counsel and Secretary to MetLife Foundation where she provides legal guidance, contract review and corporate governance advice. Prior to her current positions, Theresa handled numerous complex litigation and regulatory matters involving securities and real estate investments, international disputes, broker-dealer investigations and FINRA arbitrations. Theresa defended MetLife Bank in litigation and regulatory matters and handled issues relating to the wind-down of the Bank\'s operations. Theresa developed an expertise in e-Discovery best practices and is the former head of the Litigation Section\'s e-Discovery team and has presented on e-Discovery best practices at industry conferences. Theresa has been actively involved in managing outside counsel expenses and led a cross-departmental team to increase the effectiveness and coverage of outside law firms while reducing the number of outside law firms. Prior to MetLife, Theresa was an associate at a New York City law firm handling real estate litigation matters. Theresa was also an Associate Director of the Career Center at Brooklyn Law School where she presented professional development programs and supervised the Civil Court Mediation Program in which students mediated cases in Small Claims Court. Theresa is active in MetLife’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives and was named MetLife\'s Working Mother of the Year in 2013. Theresa also received the 2018 National Association of Women Lawyer\'s Virginia S. Mueller Award for Outstanding Member. Theresa is also co-chair of the NAWL Women in Financial Services Affinity Group.
