ABOUT THERESA RYBCHINSKI

With over 10 years of personal lived and professional experience in the mental health and addiction field, I work from a holistic, relational, trauma-informed and humanistic perspective to walk alongside those who have lost their way. I work from the stance that I am not an expert but a guide to support those to find their way back to themselves. I have learnt the importance and value of relationships through the years and this is the foundation that I work from. My practice is focused on providing a holistic approach to trauma and addiction recovery. My perspective on addiction is closely tied to trauma and due to this, I believe that any therapy that involves addiction recovery also requires intentional trauma-focused and trauma-informed care. Furthermore, I believe in the importance of a holistic, collaborative and progressive approach to supporting people in active addiction and/or seeking recovery from addiction and part of this ethos includes a harm reduction philosophy. My professional vision is to work towards building a private practice that focuses on this. I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T) and am a Somatic-Based Therapist trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Lastly, as a white visitor to this land, my personal intention is to continue doing the work to unlearn what no longer serves me and the clients I work with. I have had the great honour of working with and learning from Indigenous people through the years and feel deep gratitude for this community and their trust in me. I intend to enrol as a non-insured health benefit provider to provide accessible care for Indigenous people who require support.
